If you think your daily life revolves around the internet every day, do you think you need to create your own personal website?
These days people appears to be can’t live without internet connection. Whether they are professional or common people, they just can’t start the day without checking their emails or personal social media accounts.
When you created your first social media account from Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, how did you feel especially when you first uploaded your profile picture?
If you have a social media account, you cannot just post everything on it. This is the reason why some social media users get bashed or bullied because they are not aware that their unpleasant posts can reach any part of the world.
While using one of these social media platforms, I wanted my post to be different because I get bored of just posting photos with the same background. I mean, I want to own my personal pages and have full control of it. Unfortunately we can’t do that on any social media platform.
This is when I started to want to create my own. If you have your own website, you can do anything you want with it, like the appearance of the page itself. You can also monetize it by adding your affiliate links or any product you want to promote.
But why do you need to create one when you can just create an account to any blogging platform on the internet?
There are a lot of blogging platforms out there where we can post our stories or even videos for our content. We have blogger, WordPress, tumblr and the blockchain based blogging platform like read.cash, Turum, Hive, Publis0x and Lunarcrush to name but a few. But as I have just said you have no control of customization when it comes to the appearance of your blog.
Do you really need to create a personal website?
For me the answer is yes. For the last five years, eighty percent of my daily routine needs an internet connection so my answer would be yes. You know when I have switched careers, I become more active to using the internet, my type of work specifically. Then I learned about passive income and other side hustles online so I definitely need to create one.
I have been trying to create my own personal website since 2010 but unfortunately it hasn’t come to materialize. Or it is just that I have a lot of excuses and procrastination. I don’t know.
But I built a free website with Blogger back in 2011. You can check out larsizg.blogspot.com. I built it just for fun and experimenting with the little knowledge I learned about HTML. Unfortunately I no longer have access to the site as I have completely lost my credential with that blogsite.
If you think creating a website today isn’t really necessary for you well then I will give you three reasons.
- Stand Out
Not everyone wants to stand out but at some point in your life there is a situation that you want to stand out. One good example of having a website is when you are looking for a job. It is an advantage because when the HR is reviewing resumes they will look into your website. So your website becomes your resume. Imagine if out of the fifty resumes and yours was the only one with a website, there is a high chance that you will get hired.
These days’ employers are checking every applicant’s social media account. That is why most of us wanted to have a pleasing profile picture in any of our personal social media.
- Make A Difference
It doesn’t matter if you have zero knowledge about web hosting and web design. These days creating a website is as easy as creating a social media account. You need not have to be an IT expert or knowledgeable about computers to make a difference.
When you create your website you will have to document all your journeys. Talk about your life experiences, your ups and downs, and your win and lose. Just talk about what you have learned. You never know who’s going to change their life with your website. You never know who inspires you.
- Create Opportunity
Another thing that’s great about having a website is that it creates so many opportunities. Remember that the internet connects to any part of the world so you never know who’s going to see it. You don’t know what’s going to happen. You could even help someone with your website while you are sleeping.
If you are reading this and you have your own personal website I salute you. Feel free to leave a comment. Your opinions and suggestions are highly appreciated.
