“A beggar man sitting on the sidewalk answering a crossword puzzle in the newspaper” is a bit of an oxymoron.
It makes you think about how our society has changed, the different ways people are now interacting with one another, and how labor is divided.
Have you ever seen a homeless man sitting on the sidewalk, seemingly in deep concentration on a crossword puzzle?
If you could get a glimpse of what he was about, would you be able to answer the crossword puzzle for him?
In a way, yes. If you knew him well enough, you could probably answer most of the clues. But if you only knew him in passing, or only saw him from a distance, it would be much harder to help him out.
The man in question is homeless, and this photo was taken by me early morning. He’s been solving crossword puzzles on the sidewalk when I parked my motorcycle. As you can see in his physical appearance we can say that he doesn’t have a home or a job, but seemingly intelligent.
I am kind of a photography enthusiast so I took several shots without him knowing. He looks serious and focused on thinking about the words to write down in the puzzle. I wanted to chime in but I don’t want to disrupt his concentration. Perhaps he will lose focus if I would talk to him so I just looked at him while he was enjoying answering the crossword puzzle.

At first I was thinking that he was just reading the news but when I get closer I was a bit surprise that he was answering the crossword puzzle.
The man might not be in right place but might be at the right time. He was able to answer the crossword puzzle on the sidewalk even if cars passing are too loud and without minding the noisy people passing by. However it appears he had all of the necessary information at his disposal. This is a remarkable story of serendipity and luck, and it just goes to show that anything is possible even if you’re not in the right place or time.
The man in the photo is homeless, but he’s not just sitting on the sidewalk. He’s actively engaged in trying to solve a crossword puzzle in the newspaper. It’s a small moment of happiness and accomplishment in what is likely a difficult and challenging life.
I took this photo because I was struck by the man’s dedication to solving the puzzle, despite his current circumstances. It’s a reminder that everyone has something they’re passionate about, regardless of their circumstances. And it’s also a reminder that we all have the potential to make positive contributions to society, no matter our starting point.
