When we find problem in certain situation we tend to have headaches and become stressed.
What do you do when you are experiencing problems? Did you find solutions right away or you just ignored it?
Problems come and go just like friends and lovers do. However, some friends become lovers and often become a problem.
In solving those problems we encounter every day, be it simple or complex, we analyze the situation and think of possible solutions. Some solutions need things that can help solve the problem.
For example we can solve simple mathematical equations using our brain but if the numbers are too many we use a calculator. Unless you have an incredible brain like Daniel Paul Tammet then you will need not have to use such a tool.
Artificial Intelligence
We are now living in a digital era which I know for sure that everyone else here is aware of. What do we mean by that? It simply means that if you are holding a Smartphone right now or if you are in front of your PC screen, then that explains it all. The things that you do with those electronic devices are digital. The main reason behind this is technology and innovation.
With the advancement in technology, a lot of companies are making innovations with machines that can help us to simplify things. In other words, they innovate existing stuff to make our lives better and easier.
Siri, Cortana and Google Assistant are the first three leading apps that use Artificial Intelligence (AI). This is very helpful to us right now. For example when we ask them questions we get an answer right away.
At some point, AI will be useful to us not only in gathering information with these apps but they can help people do their work easier with the aid of machines or AI robots.
The question is, will AI really help people or will it just wipe out humans?
Elon Musk, CEO TESLA Motors, has been promoting AI but when interviewed he always said that anyone who develops Artificial Intelligence should be very cautious because AI is dangerous. “The danger of AI is much greater than a nuclear warhead” according to Musk.
This means that AI will be a threat to humanity. There would be mass unemployment because machines will take over. But there are still jobs that machines can’t do better like doctors, journalists and or chef. These types of jobs can share people with empathy and express sympathy. While AI skills are only for computing and provide data according to their input.
But if this happens there will be a massive social challenge. The harder challenge is the manner by which an individual will have meaning. Most people acquire their meaning from their job. If you are no longer needed how do you find meaning? What’s the meaning of living? You will feel useless. That is a very hard problem to deal with.
Digital Ghost
These days, social media is quite a trend however there are a lot of social media accounts that are not real. You can have a new friend, chat with him online but you are not sure if the person is real.
Some websites are using AI to respond to users’ queries. So don’t think that the person who answers your questions in the chat box is a real person.
Have you ever wondered what happened to the social media accounts of those people who died? Their account will still be active. Their digital ghost will still linger. The emails and pictures they post on social media will still be there. No one will deactivate those accounts, not even the site admin. It will remain there forever unless the site is shut down. AI will still provide information about deceased people on social media but AI doesn’t know that those people are long gone.
We can’t deny the fact that AI technology is already happening and whether far or soon it will rule over humanity. Let’s just hope that this type of technology will not harm humans or might be the cause of our extinction in the future.
